Measure before adding material

Start with attic depth, visible gaps, moisture conditions, and preferably a blower-door test. Air sealing usually comes before added insulation so new material does not hide leakage paths. Resolve roof, plumbing, combustion-safety, and ventilation issues first.

Quote comparison fields

Ask for existing and proposed R-values, square footage, air-sealing locations, recessed-light and flue treatment, ventilation changes, material type, removal/disposal, and verification after work. Compare scope, not only price per square foot.

Estimate simple payback

Use installed cost after confirmed incentives divided by conservatively estimated annual savings. Keep financing, maintenance, energy-price changes, comfort, and equipment downsizing as separate assumptions.
