Heat pump rebate starter

Reviewed July 12, 2026. A rebate is not automatic and state funding may be reserved, waitlisted, or closed.

Before requesting quotes

Collect 12 months of fuel and electricity use, conditioned square footage, current equipment model/age, duct condition, and comfort problems. Ask each contractor for a room-by-room or whole-home load calculation rather than sizing from the old unit alone.

Compare the same facts

Record exact indoor and outdoor model numbers, capacity at your winter design temperature, SEER2, HSPF2, electrical-panel work, permits, controls, backup heat, labor warranty, and total installed cost. For ductless systems, compare the number and placement of heads.

Rebate checks before contract

Confirm whether your state requires pre-approval, an approved contractor, income verification, an energy assessment, or specific product certification. Ask who submits the application and whether utility incentives can stack with state rebates.
